The Judicial Court of Braga today sentenced a man to four years and two months in effective prison who stabbed the owner of a cafeteria in Dume, in that city.

The 49-year-old defendant was convicted of the crime of attempted murder.

The events date back to the early morning of January 9, when the victim, after closing the cafe, was attacked at the door of the house by the defendant, who was armed with a razor with an eight-inch blade.

According to the court, the defendant struck at least three blows on various parts of the victim’s body, hitting him in the face, near the neck and chest.

One of the blows hit the victim’s left pleura, which, for the court, means that the defendant had to press the razor with intense force to pierce the skin, advance the ribs and hit that organ.

The reality, adds the court, “necessarily shows an iron will to kill.”

The victim, however, offered resistance and the accused fled.

At the scene, he left his cell phone, a handkerchief and a razor, which were broken during the attacks.

The following day, the defendant filed a complaint with the police for alleged theft of his cell phone, which earned him a simulated crime conviction.

The Public Ministry also accused the defendant of theft, considering that this was the motive of the crime, since the day before he would have been notified of a debt with Social Security.

However, the court did not prove the theft, because the defendant did not take anything.

At the trial, the defendant did not make any statements, but in the first judicial questioning he denied the facts.

The accused, a drug addict, must also pay compensation of 15,000 euros to the victim, in addition to 3,188 euros to the Hospital de Braga.

As long as the decision is not final, it will remain subject to the measure of house arrest, with electronic surveillance, which is being carried out in a therapeutic community, for the treatment of drug addiction.
