The Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition announced this Saturday the measures to support restaurants and similar establishments particularly affected by the restrictions of the State of Emergency. Pedro Siza Vieira estimates that the aid for the closure of these two weekends is around 25 million euros, which represents an amount of aid to the sector of 1,103 million euros since the start of the pandemic.

“These billing losses are not exclusively due to the restrictive measures imposed by the Portuguese State to contain the pandemic. It is the contraction of total demand ”, explained Pedro Siza Vieira, at a press conference. “People leave home less, tourists don’t visit us,” he exemplified.

The government official said that the drop in sales in this sector in tourist areas exceeds 31%, on average, but admits that nightlife establishments (bars and discos) were especially affected.

“The company that breaks more than 25% of the invoicing will have the right, as detected in the electronic invoice, to a non-refundable compensation equivalent to 20% of that invoicing, with limits that are 7,500 euros for micro-businesses and 40,000 euros for small Business. We want the applications to be available by the end of this month, ”he informed reporters from the Apoiar.PT program (see below).

Pedro Siza Vieira said that restaurants have already received 580 million euros in credit and total support for these companies in the order of 1,103 million euros since the start of the pandemic in Portugal (March).

The Prime Minister, António Costa, had revealed, in an interview with TVI, that the Executive would announce “a specific package to support catering companies in what they will suffer in income in the next two weekends.”

Last week, the Government gave the green light to new measures to support companies affected by the pandemic in a package that injects 1,550 million euros of liquidity into organizations, financed with European funds. Of these 1,550 million euros, 910 million will be non-refundable (750 million euros through the Apoiar.PT program for micro and small businesses and 160 million with the partial conversion of credit lines).

“The companies that benefit from this support have the obligation not to make layoffs while the support lasts, nor to distribute funds to their partners,” he referred to the minister, also clarifying that the aid will be paid in two installments: the first after the request and the second two. months later.

There will also be a new credit line of 750 million euros for industrial companies with a high volume of business derived from exports, in which 20% of the credit amount may be converted into a non-refundable subsidy, the amount of the credit being determined according to number of jobs.
