Portugal registered 1,649 more cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the day with the most cases since the start of the pandemic, surpassing the 1,516 registered on April 10. It is the first time that there are three consecutive days with more than a thousand cases, with 1,278 new infections registered on Thursday and 1,394 on Friday.
According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate General of Health (DGS) this Saturday (October 10), five more people died from the new coronavirus.
The total number of infected since the beginning of the pandemic is 85,574 and the number of deaths is 2,067. There are 20 more hospitalizations in the last 24 hours, for a total of 831, and three fewer people in intensive care. Now there are 122.
There are 639 more recovered, for a total of 52,803, and the number of active cases nationwide is 30,704 (another 1002 as of Friday’s bulletin). There are 47,602 contacts monitored by the health authorities, 119 less than the day before.
The highest increase in cases is registered in the North (more than 910), followed by the Lisbon region and Vale do Tejo (more than 546). There are still 155 more in the Center, 8 in the Algarve and 8 in the Alentejo. There are seven new cases in Madeira and two more in the Azores.
As for the five deaths registered in the last 24 hours, two occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, two in the North and one in the Algarve.
The number of infected worldwide has already exceeded 37 million
The new coronavirus has already infected more than 37 168 976 million people worldwide and caused 1,073 650 deaths, according to the Worldometers website (which collects official data from around the world). Currently 27,929,455 million have been recovered.
In total, the United States of America is the country with the highest concentration of cases (7,895,738). It is followed by India (6,979,423), Brazil (5,057,190) and Russia (1,285,084). Portugal appears in position 49 in the world case table.
In terms of deaths, after the United States (218,685), Brazil is the nation with the most reported deaths (149,692), followed by India (107,450) and Mexico (83,507).
