According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the red warning, the most serious of a scale of four, will be in effect in the five districts between 12:00 and 18:00 today.

All districts of mainland Portugal (18) start at 9:00 am under an orange warning due to the forecast of periods of heavy and persistent rains.

As of 12:00, five districts are in red and the rest are under orange warning until 6:00 p.m. today, and then yellow until 00:00 on Wednesday.

The IPMA also issued an orange warning to all the districts of the continent, except Porto and Viana do Castelo, until 9:00 p.m. today due to the forecast of strong wind with gusts of up to 95 kilometers per hour, being up to 120 kilometers per hour in the mountains. .

The Beja, Lisbon, Setúbal and Faro districts are also under yellow warning due to the rough sea, with southwesterly waves of 4 to 4.5 meters between 12:00 and 18:00 today.

The IPMA also placed the island of Madeira under an orange alert due to the forecast of rain until 9 a.m. today and strong southwest wind gusting up to 130 km / h until 6 p.m. today.

The orange warning indicates a meteorological situation of moderate to high risk and the yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is risk for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.

The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) has put eight districts in the center and north of the country on a special orange alert since 00:00 today due to “strong and persistent” rains and winds.

Lisbon, Santarém, Setúbal, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Porto are the eight districts that will be on an orange alert (the second most serious on the scale) between 00:00 today and 23:59 on Wednesday.
