Red Cross Hospital with new administration despite votes against

The president of the Red Cross (CV), Francisco George, appointed two administrators for the Hospital, and minority shareholders voted against it, during a meeting of the general meeting, which took place this Monday.

The moment of the decision was contested because they understand that the priority is to define a strategy, in view of the announced sale of the health unit to Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Lisbon, scheduled for soon.

The executive presidency was assumed by Nuno Albuquerque, despite having neither training nor administrative experience. Graduated in law, he was director of human resources at CVP. The position of member was filled by Catarina Baptista, who was the operational coordinator of the administrative part, despite having training in science and a Specialization course in Hospital Administration.

Both Parp República, which owns 45% of the capital, and the doctors and nurses, who represent 0.03% of the shares, will not have commented on the names chosen by Francisco George, of which they only found out on Monday, but underlined the importance of giving direction to the hospital. At the meeting, the president of the General Assembly, Aldina Gonçalves, and the secretary, João Martins, resigned, breaking with the president.

“The representativeness of the CV was restored on the Board of Directors of the Hospital Management Company, which immediately assumed office,” says Francisco George, in a written statement. Previous administrators disagreed with George, who remains a non-executive president, despite being considered “incapable” by many professionals who work there.

The Republic declined to comment.
