Calmer Monday in terms of new cases of covid-19, but with a record of 91 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, during which 111 more hospitalizations were registered.

In the last 24 hours, Portugal lost 91 more lives to covid-19, the highest number of deaths in a single day from causes associated with the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, surpassing the 82 registered on November 11 and the 78 the next day.

Almost half of the fatal victims lived in the Northern Region (RN), the most affected by the pandemic, which lost 44 more lives in the last hours, for a total of 1607 deaths registered since the first person died of covid-19 in Portuguese lands. March 16.

The Lisbon Region and the Tagus Valley (RLVT), second in terms of cases and deaths, added 33 more missing lives to the grim wings of the covid-19, which has already caused 1,302 deaths in the most populated region of the country.

The Central Region, strongly affected by the pandemic during the first wave, once again suffered the effects of covid-19, losing 11 lives for the second consecutive year. In total, 433 deaths are already registered in the central part of the country.

Algarve and islands, Madeira and Azores, did not register new deaths, with the Alentejo registering the loss of three more lives, for a cumulative of 79 deaths.

The pandemic, already written and rewritten, is particularly fatal for the elderly, and the latest numbers are just the rule, without exception. Of the 91 deceased, 62 (29 men and 33 women) were over 80 years old, that is, 68% of the daily total.

The 70-79-year-old group lost another 17 people (11 men and six women), while the 60-69-year-old group had eight more deaths (seven men and one woman).

It is a constant in recent weeks, since the second wave hit the current country, there is always another victim among citizens of full working age, in the case of 50-59 years – in the last 24 hours there were four, more than usual, three men and one woman.

There are more than three thousand people admitted to hospitals

The number of people hospitalized continues to increase, practically day by day in Portugal. After a pause (minus one) on Saturday, the hospitals treated 131 patients on Saturday and 111 until midnight on Sunday, when they closed the accounts of the bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

In total, there are now 3,040 people admitted to the hospital, of which 426 (plus 11) in intensive care units.

Some wait with the number of recovered, cited at 3,560, with DGS referring to a change in the data analysis system, in which “the daily difference in relation to the previous day’s data is calculated.” Calculations made, for what matters most, 142155 Portuguese have recovered from the disease.

The same methodology was applied to active cases of covid-19, which number more than 350, according to the bulletin this Monday, for a total of 80045. The change in the data analysis system generated some discrepancies, which led to the Correction of accumulated numbers, resulting in more 4375 confirmed cases (for a total of 225672), more than 13,529 recovered and less 9154 active cases.

Number of cases similar to Monday of last week

Monday is usually a day to stop and breathe with a little more hope. And today, it is no different. As eight days ago, the figures that assail us daily are lighter, at the beginning of the week, this is like the previous one, with about four thousand daily cases of covid-19.

This Monday, according to data from the daily bulletin of the General Health Directorate, 3,996 new infections by covid-19 were reported, 100 less than the 4,096 of last Monday. In both, the North region reported slightly more than half of the cases: 2,063 today (51.6% of the national total) and 2,265 eight days ago (55.3% of the total then).

Global figures, the northernmost region of the country has accounted for 111,924 SARS-CoV-2 infections since the beginning of the pandemic, 51.7% of the 217,301 cases identified in the country since March 2.

In the second, as in the other days of the last four weeks, when the trend was reversed and the North registered more cases, the second region of the country most affected by the pandemic is the most populated in Portugal. This Monday, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region (RLVT) notified 1,350 new infections, staying above 1,000 daily cases of covid-19 since November 1. In total, almost 80,000 people have already been infected around the capital.

The numbers show a worrying constancy, also, in the Central Region, which since the November dealbar has been maintained with daily figures of cases of the order of 500. Counting on the usual slowdown on Mondays, there are 462 until midnight on Sunday.

Down there, it’s Monday across the country, a breathing day with less pressure on the numbers. The Alentejo added 39 more cases and crossed the barrier of 4,000 infections since the start of the pandemic (4018).

In the Algarve the figures are a bit more “audacious”, but the result is the same, with the barrier of four thousand cases to be doubled, up to 4010, counting with the 56 records of the last 24 hours.

In the islands, the Azores added 16 more infections, for a total of 621, while in Madeira there are already 636, added to the 10 infections registered until midnight on Sunday.
