João Coelho Guimarães, a 45-year-old homeless Brazilian, was reunited with his family after a local barber cut his hair and trimmed his beard. Images of the final result were posted on social media and quickly went viral.

The man has lived on the streets of Goiânia, Brazil, for about three years, but his family assumed he would have been dead for a decade.

Recently, the owner and employees of a men’s clothing store and barber shop, called Padoo, offered to completely change João’s appearance, giving him a new outfit and cutting off his hair and beard. The images went viral on social media and ended up reaching the man’s family, who couldn’t believe it.

João had already passed through the store several times, but one day he decided to go inside. He only asked for a razor to trim his beard and refused to eat when the store owner offered to help him.

“It was then that we came up with an idea and everyone in the store decided to participate and help that man by giving him a day of beauty,” explained Alessandro Lobo, owner of the establishment, in statements to the Twitter.

The transformation took two hours and the results were amazing. In the end, the team decided to show the result on social media. When João’s mother and sister found the photographs, they contacted the hairdresser. Since they did not know where to find it, they stayed around the neighborhood taking a walk in the hope that it would appear.

It was then that João returned to the store and met his family. The moment of the hug was recorded through surveillance cameras.

Despite the happy reunion, João did not accept his sister’s invitation to live with him, saying that he feels “free” on the street.
