PUBLIC receives 23 distinctions in the “European Newspaper Award” | Awards

PUBLIC received 23 awards at the 22nd edition of the European Newspaper Award, an award given annually by Newspaper Design Office which is a German organization that distinguishes newspapers with the best design in Europe. In the photo gallery, it is possible to see some of the newspaper’s covers and works that stood out.

In total, 164 newspapers from 25 countries participated in the 2020 edition, with more than 4,000 applications for the 20 award categories. The jury also received 312 project applications online from 11 different countries, noting that there has been a significant increase in data journalism and multimedia journalism projects submitted compared to last year.

This year, the big winners (in the categories of local, regional, national and weekly newspapers) were newspapers from Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany. In Portugal, newspapers were also awarded Quick me Madeira newspaper.

PUBLIC won in nine categories and was distinguished on several occasions: for example, three newspaper awards went to covers made to represent the coronavirus crisis and six awards went to works in the Online Infographic category. But it wasn’t just the covers or infographics that won: the chatbot created by PUBLIC to present the 2020 ranking of schools, it was distinguished in the Online Innovation category.
