A PSP agent in Lisbon has to return to duty, even after testing positive for COVID-19 for the third time. According to the indications of the General Directorate of Health (DGS), after ten days without symptoms, the patient is able to work, not needing a negative test.
The measure is causing apprehension not only to the agent himself but also to many colleagues, since the PSP, attached to the 5th Division of the PSP in Lisbon, belongs to a Rapid Intervention Team, which means that he has to travel in a van seven more agents.
The Union of Police Professionals (SPP) has already expressed its displeasure to the PSP Command and hopes that DGS guidelines will not be followed. “He is very afraid of being able to infect one or more colleagues, but he cannot miss the service either because his discharge is over and he has orders to return,” says Mário Andrade, president of the SPP.
The trade unionist reveals that there is much indignation among the hosts with these new guidelines because “there are already more than 100 infected police officers and, therefore, we run the risk of being with thousands”. If the measure persists, Mário Andrade anticipates that infections will increase and warns that the operational capacity of the PSP could be further affected.
New DGS instructions, issued Oct. 14, say that after 10 days of isolation with no symptoms and three days without fever medication, patients no longer need a negative test to return to work, being deemed fit.
In the specific case of this PSP agent, it tested positive for covid-19 for the first time on October 3, then on October 13, and now again positive. Still, the instructions you received are for getting back to work.
