If not for the pandemic, it was a time of celebration and celebration to enter a new year. However, 2000 turns and shifted crowds are now prohibited. Social networks multiply groups of people who want to celebrate the New Year, but the authorities are alert.

On social media, and although the country is in the midst of a pandemic, many groups offer several options for those who want to spend the new year away from home. “I rent a country-style room for a private party on 12/31 and 1/1.” “Best New Year’s Eve in Braga” or “Private New Year’s Eve in Guimarães” are some of the announcements.

Both GNR and PSP have been attentive to this behavior, but it has not been easy to access the chosen places, since the coordinates to understand where these parties are held are scarce. For that, you must be invited for one of these closed groups on Facebook or send a private message to know all the details.

This is the greatest difficulty for the authorities when looking for the places where the parties that are intended to last into the night and dawn of the new year will be held, which, according to the restrictions applied for the festive season, is illegal.

In addition to private parties, the police also detected New Year’s parties organized by collectives, where shows are included, in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve. In these cases, the invitations are made in public spaces of social networks, which facilitates their detection by the police.

Hugo MaradoThe PSP Algarve commissioner guarantees, in statements to Expresso, that the authorities will act “more in reaction”, which does not invalidate the monitoring of social networks to understand where private parties are organized.

Already David ferreira, captain of the GNR, says that the patrols will be “adjusted according to the information collected on social networks, and beyond.”

On the last night of the year, the security forces will bet on visibility, in some cases in a more muscular way. In the streets, there may be hundreds of operatives with bulletproof vest and weapons in sight. However, the focus will be to sensitize criminals to return home without using force, authorities said.

“We will pay special attention to the most problematic neighborhoods where informal parties are held on the street and at home. But the warrants are for deterrence and only as a last resort to make arrests, “says a PSP source.

Both in the case of PSP and GNR there will be a bet on road operations The objective of which is to avoid travel between municipalities between 11:00 p.m. on January 31 and 5:00 a.m. on January 4.
