PSP and GNR detained 108 people in the third phase of the state of emergency

So far, PSP and GNR have detained 108 people for the crime of disobedience and have closed 235 commercial establishments for breach of the rules defined for the third phase of the state of emergency promulgated due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Internal Administration (AMI) added, in a statement, that from April 18 to 17:00 today, in the context of the “intense awareness, surveillance and inspection activity”, 108 people were detained, of which 36 were disobedience to the obligation of mandatory confinement, one for disobedience to the special duty of protection, 51 for disobedience to the general duty of collection in the home, eight for disobedience to the closure of facilities and establishments, one for disobedience to the rules of retail trade, three for disobedience to the rules of operation in the provision of services and eight for resistance / coercion.

In the same period, 235 establishments were closed for non-compliance with the established norms, says the AMI.

These figures are in addition to those observed in the first two periods of a state of emergency: in the first, which ran from March 22 to April 2, 108 arrests for disobedience crimes were also recorded and 1,708 commercial establishments were closed, while that in the second, between April 3 and 17, there were 184 arrests for the crime of disobedience and 432 commercial establishments were closed.

The Interior Ministry, “in view of the urgent need for everyone to contribute to curbing the spread of covid-19, insists on strict compliance with the measures imposed by the State of Emergency.”

Globally, according to the latest official data, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 217,000 deaths and infected more than 3.1 million people in 193 countries and territories.

In Portugal, 973 of the 24,505 people confirmed to be infected died, and there are 1,470 cases recovered, according to the Directorate General of Health.

On Saturday, May 2, the third 15-day period of a state of emergency ends, which began on March 19, and the government is expected to announce measures on Thursday to continue fighting the pandemic.

Due to the long weekend, the Government, meanwhile, decreed a ban on travel between municipalities from May 1 to 3.
