PS lost the absolute majority – Açoriano Oriental

The PS has governed the region since 1996, but only in the elections held in 2000 did it obtain an absolute majority, renewed in the 2004, 2008, 2012 and even in 2016, year in which it won 30 mandates.

To reach an absolute majority, the PS should have at least 29 of the 57 deputies of the Azores parliament.

According to the provisional results published by the Regional Directorate of Organization and Public Administration (DROAP), the PS today won the regional legislatures, reaching 39.13% (40,701 votes).

The PSD, with 33.74% (35,091 votes), guaranteed 21 mandates, followed by the CDS-PP with 5.51% (5,734 votes), which elected three deputies, in addition to a parliamentarian in coalition with the PPM ( with 115) votes. .

Chega, who ran for the first time in the regional offices of the Azores, obtained 5.06% (5,260 votes), elected two deputies, as did BE, who reached 3.81% (3,962 votes).

The PPM obtained 2.34% (2,431 votes) and elected a deputy, as well as another elected in coalition with the CDS-PP.

The Liberal Initiative, which was also presented for the first time to the Legislative Assembly of the Azores, obtained 1.93% (2,012 votes) and elected a deputy, as well as the PAN that had an identical percentage and only eight votes less.

The PCP / PEV coalition, which had elected a deputy four years ago, did not win any mandate, having obtained 1.68% (1,745 votes).

The Azores legislatures ran with 13 political forces that were candidates for the 57 seats of the Regional Legislative Assembly: PS, PSD, CDS-PP, BE, CDU, PPM, Liberal Initiative, Libre, PAN, Basta, Alianza, MPT and PCTP / MRPP. 228,999 voters registered to vote.

In total, there are 10 electoral districts, one for each island in the Azores plus the compensation circle.

Only six of the forces competed for all circles: PS, PSD, CDS, BE, CDU (PCP / PEV) and PPM, all of which had seats in the regional parliament.

In the previous Azorian legislatures, in 2016, the PS won with 46.4% of the votes, which translated into 30 seats in the regional parliament, compared to 30.89% of the second most voted party, the PSD, with 19 seats, and 7.1% of the CDS-PP (four quarters).

BE, with 3.6%, obtained two mandates, the PCP / PEV coalition, with 2.6%, one, and PPM, with 0.93% of the votes cast, also one.

The PS has ruled the region for 24 years, having been preceded by the PSD, which led the regional executive between 1976 and 1996.
