The president of the League explained that the DGS will re-evaluate the quarantine framework that will be applied in professional football.
Pedro Proença, president of the League, addressed the case of Sporting-Gil Vicente on Monday, a match on the first day of the championship that was shrouded in doubts after the detection of several positive cases of covid-19 in both teams.
After the meeting with the Secretary of State for Health, António Lacerda Sales, the leader of the organization that oversees professional football explained that the players of both squads – who were in contact with the infected – will be examined on Tuesday and, in itself negative, they can play.
“Players will be tested tomorrow [terça-feira], immediately, so that they are available for the next trip. The guarantee we have is that all the players with positive results will be evaluated tomorrow. If the teams are in shape, they will go to play. Everything depends on the evolution of the epidemiological situation, but, by testing the players and giving a negative result, we will surely have a game, ”said Proença.
Players who tested positive for covid-19 must comply with the 14-day quarantine – therefore they are excluded from the first round – but this is a situation that is being re-evaluated, explained the president of the League: “The situation of the quarantine is being reevaluated and we are going to receive clear and objective instructions on that issue. ”Proença staff also explained that the quarantine period was reduced from 14 to 10 days.
