The moderate care unit installed in the old ISAVE university residence, in Póvoa de Lanhoso, received the first covid patients from hospitals in the region today, the local authority announced.

In charge of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Póvoa de Lanhoso and the City Council, this unit aims to “relieve the hospitals” that are almost full with this type of patients, as is the case of the Guimarães Hospital, which today transferred users to this new Unit.

“Póvoa de Lanhoso, is, once again, an example of support and fight against the pandemic that everyone stalks. A fantastic job, carried out by the institution of the municipality in collaboration with the City Council, which aims to relieve the hospitals in the region ”, says the municipality.

The building has already had technical verification by ARS Norte, as SCMPL’s supplier told O MINHO: “It has excellent conditions.”

This unit will hire 40 nurses, 50 medical assistants and between eight and 10 doctors.

The agreement is renewable for three months. “It depends a lot on the pandemic. If it evolves negatively, we can go to 120 and the limit to 160 beds “, adds the supplier Humberto Carneiro, specifying that the investment in the facilities is 200 thousand euros.

Then, the State will pay per user and Misericórdia can end without obtaining the full value of the investment.

“It is difficult to start [cobrir o investimento], but we are fulfilling a national mission, for that reason the social sector has to ally itself with the State, in this case the SNS, which is a difficulty that affects us all. Mercies are part of the solution ”, emphasizes the provider, emphasizing that this is only possible thanks to the“ commitment of the Chamber with the entity that owns the property ”to make it available.
