The highest proportion of positive tests occurred among people who never manifested any symptoms, or had contact with suspected or confirmed cases of covid-19 coronavirus, the newspaper Público advances, using the report Diaries of a Pandemic, an initiative of the Institute of Public Health from the University of Porto (ISPUP) and from the Institute of Systems, Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC).

ISUP President Henrique Barros told Público that for each symptomatic case “there will be four, five or perhaps more cases of infection that do not present symptoms,” according to the results of the surveys of a sample of 11,125 individuals. That same survey reveals that 8,613 people reported that they never had personal contact with suspected or confirmed cases of covid-19 or developed any symptoms.

Henrique Barros tells the public that the official figures are made with reference to symptomatic cases, but that “they are contaminated by asymptomatic cases that result from detection.
