The official told the same newspaper that the truckers contacted the government through an email sent to the Consulate of Portugal in the United Kingdom and that they have already been given a response. The orders “could still be more”, but for now there is no information, he said.
“The first email received was not a specific request, it was related to the situation; the second was from a person involved and who wanted to know if the blockade did not end, he could leave the truck and return to Portugal by another route ”, explains Berta Nunes to ‘Expresso’.
The third, “this was already received this Wednesday, it was from the wife of a truck driver who is in the blockade, very worried because people are running out of food and water,” adds the official, estimating that there are “about 300 Portuguese truckers.” . at the border, but “it’s a rough number,” he says.
“As the British authorities say, in two or three days the situation must be resolved,” he guarantees. “We are following the situation, people were very worried because until now there was not much information, they did not know what was going to happen and that everyone would have to take the test,” he said, saying that “the situation has begun to unblock and they should some trucks arrived in France ”.
