Portugal with the lowest number of daily cases in 11 days, but with the highest hospitalization history

This Sunday, Portugal counted another 4,788 cases of covid-19 infection – the lowest record in the last 11 days – and 73 deaths from the new virus. Thus, since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS), the country accumulates a total of 260,758 cases and 3,897 deaths. The number of hospitalized patients is 3,151 infected.

The Northern Region continues to be the most affected, with 3,081 new cases of contagion at present, followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, which, for the first time in two weeks, registered a number of daily cases below 1,000, with 844 infected. Then comes the Central Region, with 487 cases in the last 24 hours. In Alentejo there were 122 more infections and 73 in the Algarve. In the Azores archipelago, 18 new cases were reported this Sunday and another 13 in Madeira.

Regarding the number of deaths from covid-19, in the North there were 39 more, in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo 20 people died, in Centro 12 infected and in Alentejo two. In the Algarve and the islands, there were no deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Today, the number of hospitalized patients has reached an all-time high: there are 3,151 people hospitalized in Portuguese hospitals with the new coronavirus, 126 more than the previous day, 491 of whom are in intensive care, six more than on Saturday.

Over the past 24 hours, more than 3,540 people have recovered, out of a total of 172,919 cured since the pandemic began. On the other hand, there are 83,942 active cases, plus 1,175.

Right now, the health authorities have 81,667 cases under surveillance, plus 1,146 from Saturday to Sunday.
