Portugal with the highest number of infected in almost two months – Observer

Two people died in the last 24 hours in Portugal with Covid-19. According to the latest data from the Directorate General of Health, 418 new cases of infection were identified, the highest figure in 56 days. Thus, there are now a total of 59,051 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, 1,829 deaths and 42,427 people recovered.

In the last 24 hours, the number of infected increased by 0.7%, the same percentage of increase registered on Wednesday (390) compared to Tuesday. The variation in the number of deaths, 0.1%, is lower than yesterday (0.2%). With these figures, the fatality rate is 3.10%, having decreased by 0.2%. The number of active cases is 14,795, 222 more than on Wednesday.

After two days below 250, new cases rise to 390. There are 41 ICU hospitalized patients in the country.

With 418 new cases registered, 177 of them in the North region, attention is again focused beyond Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (LVT), which accounted for 207 new infections (49.5% of daily cases) in the last 24 hours and has reached 30,415 positive cases since the start of the pandemic.

The DGS counts even fewer than three people hospitalized than on Wednesday. Now there are 334. However, at the last count there were 41 people in intensive care, a number that rose to 44 (plus three).

Six months and a day after the first case of SARS-CoV-2 was registered in Portugal, on March 2, 2020, the pandemic continues to be concentrated, according to the data, mostly in the North and in Lisbon and Vale do Tajo. Of the confirmed cases, the remaining three were 18 in the Algarve, seven in the Center, four in Madeira, three in the Alentejo and two in the Azores.

There are currently 34,197 people under surveillance by the health authorities, a number that has increased by 283 in the last 24 hours.
