This Sunday, Portugal registered another 1090 cases of coronavirus infection, accumulating, even more 13 deaths, for a total of 2080 deaths.
A day after reaching a daily high of 1,646 covid-19 cases, Portugal recorded 1,090 infections this Sunday, bringing the total number of patients diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus to 86664 since the start of the pandemic.
According to the daily bulletin of the General Directorate of Health, 13 people died from causes associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, six in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo Region, six in the North Region and one in Alentejo. Since March 2, the pandemic has claimed 2,080 lives in Portugal.
After the 1278 cases on Thursday, the 1394 on Friday and the record of 1646 infections on Saturday, Portugal remained for the fourth consecutive day with more than a thousand daily cases, even taking into account that, as a general rule, on Sundays, the numbers tend to go down.
The number of people hospitalized increased from 831 to 843 (plus 12 people), when there are more patients in critical condition, with 124 patients in intensive care units now, two more than 122 on Saturday.
The fatal victims are six men and five women over the age of 80 and one man in the age group 70 to 79. There is also a woman in the 50 to 59 age group.
For the fourth consecutive day, the Northern Region (RN) concentrates half or more of the daily cases of covid-19. With 625 more cases out of a total of 1090, RN registered 57% of the contagions counted this Sunday, having already accumulated 32,345.
RN, the most affected in the country by the mortality of SARS-CoV-2, added six more deaths, adding 916 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
The Lisbon Region and the Tagus Valley, which added 329 more cases this Sunday (30% of the daily total), exceeded the barrier of 43 thousand, to 43,141 infections. By registering six more deaths, RLVT has already lost 830 lives to covid-19.
In the Central Region, the third most affected by the pandemic, 82 more cases (6,995 in total) were recorded, leaving 272 deaths.
In the south, another fatality was counted in the Alentejo, for a total of 26, with the number of positive cases now at 1630 (plus seven).
Further south, in the Algarve, there are 43 more positive cases, for a total of 1974, registering the same 21 deaths as of Saturday.
In the Azores, with the correction of the data, there are already 295 accumulated positive cases (one less than on Saturday), while Madeira accumulates another five positive cases, for a total of 284.
With 9.2% of all cases, the age group over 80 years is the most penalized, representing 67.3% of all fatalities since the start of the pandemic, 12 of which in the last 24 hours.
The immediately preceding age group, which represents 6.6% of all infections, represents 19% of deaths, one in the last 24 hours.
The age group 60-69 years, which represents 9.8% of accumulated infections, accounts for 8.6% of all deaths, while the group 50-59 years, with 14.5% of total infections, equivalent to 3% of total deaths, one of which in the last 24 hours.
In the age groups between 20 and 49 years, which account for around 50% of all infections, the cumulative mortality rate is around 1.3%.
The disease affects more women (47,263) than men (3,9041), but kills without distinction of sex: 1,041 male victims and 1039 female victims.
