The number of deaths in Portugal due to the new coronavirus increased to 714, which translates into an increase of 27 deaths (+ 3.9%) compared to yesterday, when 687 deaths were recorded, the DGS announced this Sunday, April 19.

The number of infected (confirmed cases) increased by 2.65% to 20,206, and in absolute terms the increase in cases was 521. Yesterday they had increased by 3.5% to 19,685.

The daily growth in the number of deaths in absolute terms Discharged (27 against 30 yesterday), with the lowest growth rate since the first deaths were recorded (3.9% against 4.6% yesterday).

The growth rate of new cases has been around 3% since April 11, and the growth rate of deaths has also decreased almost continuously, but very slightly.

Taking into account the number of infected and fatal victims, the case fatality rate is 3.53%, which compares with 3.49% yesterday and represents a new high since the start of the pandemic in Portugal.

Two-thirds of deaths in patients older than 80 years.

According to the DGS daily bulletin, there are 409 deaths in the north (more than half of the total), 126 in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 164 in the center and 10 in the Algarve. The Azores recorded 5 deaths, while Madeira and Alentejo remain with no fatalities to cry.

Among the fatalities, 470 are over 80 years old (66% of the total); 151 between 70 and 79; 65 between 60 and 69; 20 between 50 and 59 and eight years between 40 and 49 years. 356 are women and 358 men.

The Minister of Health revealed in the daily press conference that of the 27 deaths known today, 19 occurred in patients older than 80 years. The mortality rate in patients older than 70 years is 12.6%.

Marta Temido revealed that since March 1, 249 thousand tests have been carried out, 68% of which were carried out in April, a period in which the daily average of the tests is 9,800.

The number of suspected cases increased to 187,604 (it was 162,711 yesterday) and 4,959 people await the results of laboratory tests (5,166 yesterday).

There are 610 cases recovered, the same as the previous day. The number of people under surveillance by the authorities is now 27,947 (against 25,456 yesterday).

Fewer patients in hospitals and intensive care

The data indicates that of the more than 20 thousand confirmed cases, 1,243 are hospitalized in hospitals, which corresponds to a1% lower than yesterday (1,253)

Regarding the patients admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU), there was a decrease in two%, at 224 4 (yesterday they had increased 3% to 228)

Therefore, only 1.11% of infected people are admitted to intensive care. Of the total, 6.31% of those infected are hospitalized. These are the lowest values ​​of the last days.

The North region (12,148) continues to be the region with the highest number of confirmed cases, with more than half of the total. They are followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (4,500), the Center region (2,923) and the Algarve (310). There are 106 cases in the Azores, 61 in Madeira and 158 in Alentejo.
