Portugal with more than 5,550 cases of covid-19 and 52 deaths in 24 hours

This Friday, Portugal records another 5,550 cases of covid-19 and 52 deaths, according to the situation report released by the General Directorate of Health.

This is a new high for daily cases. The previous record had been reached on October 30, when 4,656 new infections were recorded in 24 hours.

However, on November 4, 7,497 new cases of infection were registered when the sum of 3,570 cases was included in the count, due to the delay in the laboratory report, mainly from a laboratory in the North region, since October 30.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has registered 2,793 deaths and 166,900 cases of infection, with 70,354 active cases today, 3,197 more than on Thursday.

The DGS indicates that of the 52 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, 25 occurred in the North region, 13 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, eight in the Center region and six in Alentejo.

Regarding hospital admissions, the bulletin reveals that 2,425 people are hospitalized (63 more than on Thursday). In intensive care there are 340 patients (plus 20).

Health authorities also have 79,689 contacts under surveillance, more than 12,247 compared to Thursday, and 2,301 patients were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours, a total of 93,754 since the start of the pandemic.

The North region has the highest number of new cases, with 3,006 reported in the last 24 hours, totaling 78,461 and 1,248 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 1,495 new cases of infection were reported, representing 65,869 cases and 1,090 deaths.

In the Central region, there were 676 more cases, which represented 15,045 infections and 349 deaths.

In Alentejo, 194 new cases of covid-19 were registered, with a total of 3,312 and 60 deaths.

The Algarve region has reported 156 more cases of infection today, with a total of 3,285 cases and 29 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Azores, 19 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, adding 413 detected infections and 15 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Madeira registered four cases in the last 24 hours, representing 511 infections and one death.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 75,665 men and 91,235 women in Portugal, according to reported cases.

Of the total deaths, 1,432 were men and 1,360 women.

The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.
