This Saturday Portugal registered another 3,241 cases of covid-19. 73 more people died, according to the report of the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

The DGS epidemiological bulletin also indicates that 2,858 people are hospitalized, 52 more than on Friday, of which 492 are in intensive care (nine more).

Since the start of the pandemic, Portugal has registered 7,045 deaths and 423,870 cases of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, of which 76,675 are currently active, 1,686 more than on Friday.

The health authorities keep 9,892 contacts under surveillance, 365 more than the day before.

The bulletin also reveals that another 1,482 people were reportedly recovered.

Since the start of the epidemic in Portugal in March, 340,150 people have recovered.

Regarding the deaths registered in the last 24 hours, 22 occurred in the North, 14 in the Center region, 28 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and 9 in Alentejo.

Also according to the DGS bulletin, the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region registered the highest number of new infections in the last 24 hours (1,418).

Since the start of the pandemic, the region has totaled 137,288 cases of infection and 2,443 deaths.

In the northern region, 1,014 new infections have been reported, representing 213,813 cases and 3,224 deaths so far.

The Central region registers 444 more cases, accumulating 49,642 infections and 1,020 deaths.

In Alentejo, 97 more cases were reported, totaling 11,528 infections and 230 deaths since the start of the epidemic in Portugal.

The Algarve region has reported 118 new cases today, for a total of 8,015 infections and 72 deaths.

Madeira registered 29 new cases. This autonomous community has 1,671 infections and 14 deaths from covid-19.

In the Azores, 28 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, for a total of 1,913 infections and 22 deaths.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 190,537 men and 233,186 women in Portugal, according to DGS data, according to which there are 147 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since these data are not provided automatically.

Of the total deaths, 3,665 were men and 3,380 women.

The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in the elderly over 80 years of age, followed by people between 70 and 79 years of age.

Portugal began this Sunday the first phase of vaccination against covid-19, with the first batch of 9,750 doses of the vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech to be distributed by health professionals.

The state of emergency, enacted on November 9, was renewed until January 7, with a mandatory curfew in counties with the highest risk of contagion.
