This Friday, Portugal registered 4,656 cases of covid-19, in a day with a record of deaths, 40, and serious cases, 275, in total.
Black Friday in Portugal. After surpassing the barrier of 4,000 daily cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection on Thursday, with 4,244 records, Portugal added another 4,656 infected and 40 deaths from Covid-19 this Friday.
Maximum numbers of the pandemic so far, with a cumulative of 137,272 infections since the beginning of the pandemic, on March 2, and 2,468 deaths, 40 more than yesterday, exceeding the previous maximum of fatalities in a single day, which was 37, on April 3, when the country and the Portuguese were still learning to cope with the pandemic.
The figures are difficult, also for patients who need medical attention. There are six more hospitalized in Intensive Care Units, for a total of 275, which exceeds the maximum registered in the first wave, which was 271 critical patients, on April 7.
Hospitals currently house 1,927 people, 43 more than the 1,834 who were hospitalized on Thursday, which is the worst record on record for Portuguese hospitals since the virus began destroying lives in Portugal.
Mortality with disturbing regularity
The mortality of covid-19, day after day, has a disturbing regularity. It affects the oldest age groups more, much more, and this Friday is no exception: of the 40 deaths, more than half, 22, were over 80 years old (nine men and 13 women).
As on Thursday, the second most affected band was immediately before, aged 70 to 79, with 12 deaths reported (eight men and four women).
For the second consecutive day, the death of a man under the age of 60 was recorded, while in the previous step, from 60 to 69 years, five more deaths were recorded (four men and one woman).
In total, in the last 24 hours, Covid-19 killed 22 men and 18 women.
Only on the islands there was no record of deaths in the last 24 hours
In a day with a black record, mortality from Covid-19 affected all regions of the country, according to the General Directorate of Health (DGS), except the islands.
In the Northern Region (RN), the most affected by the pandemic, in number of cases and deaths, 19 more people lost their lives, bringing the total number of deaths from covid-19 in the northernmost region of the country to 1,088.
The Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley (RLVT) lost 13 more people to covid-19. There are now 980 deaths associated with the pandemic since March.
In the center, there are three more deaths associated with covid-19, amounting to 312, while Alentejo, with the same number of deaths in the last 24 hours, now has 46 lives lost from the disease caused by SARS-CoV – 2.
Further south, in the Algarve, Covid-19 claimed two more lives, now totaling 27 souls killed since the start of the pandemic.
At the top of the cases in the north and Lisbon
In a day with black records of deaths, hospitalizations and cases, it is not surprising that the figures show the maximum number of cases both in the North Region and in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo areas.
In northern Portugal, where the infection was detected for the first time on March 2, a new daily maximum of positive cases was recorded, with 2,831 more records, 60% of the total in the last 24 hours, for a sum greater than 60 thousand (61427).
In the RLVT, another 1,357 cases were reported (29% of the total), a new daily maximum, for the most populated area of the country, which now has a cumulative 57,937 positive cases since the start of the pandemic.
