Portugal with 734 more cases of covid-19 and 13 deaths – Coronavirus

The number of infected by covid-19 in Portugal increased to 79,885, which means that in the last 24 hours, 734 more cases were registered, according to the data revealed this Monday, October 5 by the General Directorate of Health.

The new cases are, therefore, lower than yesterday, when another 904 infections were accounted for by the new coronavirus.

As for deaths, they rose to 2,018, which means 13 more deaths compared to yesterday, the highest number since September 20. On Sunday, there were 10 more deaths to mourn.

Recovered cases totaled 50,454 this Monday, an increase of 247 from the previous record and reflecting the most modest rise since September 28 (237).

The number of active cases, resulting from the subtraction of deaths and recovered cases from the total confirmed cases, reached 27,413, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.

With the data published today, the the daily average of new cases for the last seven days is now 836.6, an increase from 792.4 yesterday and that represents a new record.

In the last 14 days, Portugal accumulated 103.78 new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. This indicator, widely used internationally to measure the spread of the virus, went from 102.7 yesterday, to reach the highest record since April 12.

As of yesterday, there are 19 more hospitalized patients, bringing the total to 701, the highest number since May 12.

As for patients admitted to intensive care units, there are now 106, one more than yesterday.

Lisbon with half of the new cases

Almost half of the new cases (49%) were registered in the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, which now has a total of 40,600 infections, 356 more than yesterday. Of the rest, the North added 298 new cases, Centro 45, Alentejo 6 and Algarve 25. Madeira has 3 more cases and the Azores another 1.

Regarding the deaths, 7 occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 3 in the North, 2 in the Center and 1 in the Alentejo.
