Portugal will extend the suspension of flights outside the European Union until June 15. The Portuguese government will follow the proposal presented this Friday by the European Commission, announced the Minister of Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita, at a press conference..

The exceptions in force will be maintained for the last month and a half. The Government will allow travel to and from Portuguese-speaking countries (in Brazil, only in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro); the United Kingdom, the United States, Venezuela, Canada and South Africa; and also for the countries associated with the Schengen area (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland).

Aircraft from the special forest fire fighting device should also be able to enter the national territory.

Since March 18, connections outside the European Union have been suspended.

Previously, since March 16, air connections between Portugal and Spain are not allowed. This suspension will remain in force until May 14, according to a resolution of the Council of Ministers published on Tuesday.

In March, in the first month of the effects of covid-19 in Europe, 24,000 fewer flights were recorded at Portuguese airports.
