Portugal registers another 5,784 new confirmed cases and 48 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours – O Jornal Economico

Portugal has a total of 179,324 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 5,784 more than yesterday, reveals the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) published this Sunday, October 8. The number of fatalities due to the contagion of a new coronavirus increased to 2,896, with 48 more deaths in the last 24 hours, of which 27 in the North, 14 in Lisbon, four in the Center, two in Alentejo and one in the Algarve.

There are 76,647 active cases of contagion by a new coronavirus in Portugal today, 3,702 more than yesterday. There are 2,522 hospitalized patients (102 more than yesterday), of which 378 are in Intensive Care Units (12 more).

In total, there are 99,781 cases of people who recovered from the disease today, 2,034 more than on Saturday. The General Directorate of Health also adds that the number of contacts under surveillance currently covers 90,506 people, 844 less than on Saturday.

According to data from the organization led by Graça Freitas, of the 179,324 cases confirmed by Covid-19 in Portugal, 98,042 are women and 8,1282 men. However, there are more deaths of men: 1,485. The remaining 1,411 are women. In both men and women, the majority of victims are over 80 years old.

By regions, the North is the leader in number of cases, with 86,284 confirmed as of this Sunday, 3,923 more than yesterday. The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region is the second most affected, with a total of 68,798 confirmed cases (1,073 more than yesterday), the Center region, third, has 16,347 cases (more than 590), Alentejo, fourth, with 3,452 (plus 91) and the Algarve, fifth, with 3,441 (plus 74). The Azores have 455 cases (20 more than yesterday) and Madeira 547 (13 more).

In deaths, the North region leads, with a total of 1,306 (27 more than on Saturday), followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 1,123 (more than 14 compared to yesterday) and the Center region, with 356 (four more). The Alentejo registers a total of 65 fatalities from Covid-19 (two more than on Saturday), the Algarve 30 (one more), the Azores 15 and Madeira one.
