Portugal registers another 4,720 infections and 82 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours – O Jornal Economico

Portugal has a total of 358,296 confirmed cases of Covid-19, another 4,720 compared to Tuesday, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) published this Wednesday, December 16. The number of deaths from the new coronavirus in the country amounted to 5,815, with an increase of 82 deaths in the last 24 hours.

DGS data show that there are currently 187,065 cases registered in the North (more 2,182), 38,147 in the Center (more 840), 115,928 in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (more 1,375), 6,318 in the Algarve (more 94) , 1,477 cases in the Autonomous Region of the Azores (more than 36), 1,119 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (more than 16) and 8,242 cases in Alentejo (more than 177).

Of the total of 5,815 deaths, there are 2,759 deaths belonging to the North (plus 35), 808 in the Center (plus 14), 2,007 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (plus 30), 62 in the Algarve (plus 1 death). The Autonomous Region of the Azores did not record nine deaths and has so far had 20 deaths caused by Covid-19. The same scenario was repeated in Madeira, which so far has six deaths and has not registered new deaths in the last 24 hours. The Alentejo has had two more deaths since Tuesday, totaling 153.

There are currently 3,181 hospitalized patients (less 25), of which 486 are in Intensive Care Units (20 less than yesterday). Portugal has 283,719 cases recovered in Portugal, 3,681 more than those registered yesterday.

Those infected by Covid-19 are 16,1009 men and 19,7157 women infected and there are 130 infected people whose gender is unknown. As for deaths, 3,037 men and 2,778 women have already died. 282 fewer than yesterday are under surveillance, for a total of 74,290 people. There are still 68,762 active cases, 957 more than Tuesday.

The age group with the highest number of cases is between 40 and 49 years old, with 25,953 men and 33,763 women, in addition to 23 people of unknown sex. The highest number of deaths is recorded in 80 years, with 1,798 men and 1,798 women.
