Portugal registers another 4,369 cases and 78 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours – O Jornal Economico

Portugal registers a total of 431,623 confirmed cases of Covid-19 disease, plus 4,369 compared to the previous day, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) of this Monday, January 4. The number of deaths from infection with the new coronavirus has risen to 7,196, an additional 78 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Active cases of Covid-19 today amount to 80,008 infected, 2,407 more than on Sunday. Regarding hospitalizations, the DGS reports 3,171 hospitalizations (127 more than yesterday), of which 510 (ten more than on Sunday) in Intensive Care Units (ICU).

To date, Portugal has 344,419 cases recovered since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, 1,884 more than on Sunday. The DGS also said that 94,749 people are under surveillance, 355 more than yesterday.

According to data from the organization led by Graça Freitas, there are already 216,601 cases registered in the North, 50,891 in the Center, 139,957 in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 12,066 cases in Alentejo, 8,336 in the Algarve, 2,018 cases in the Autonomous Region of the Azores and 1,754 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

Of the 7,196 deaths, there are 3,279 in the north, 1,045 in the center, 2,512 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 249 in the Alentejo, 74 in the Algarve, 22 in the Azores and 15 deaths in Madeira.

Currently, there are 194,074 men and 237,397 women infected with the new coronavirus. In terms of deaths, there are 3,748 men and 3,448 women sick with Covid-19.

In Thursday’s statement, DGS says it is investigating 152 cases related to gender identification. “Cases of unknown sex are being investigated, as these data are not provided automatically,” explains DGS.
