Portugal registers 2,597 infections and 78 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours – O Jornal Economico

Portugal has a total of 325,071 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 2,597 more than the previous day, reveals the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) published this Monday, December 7. The number of deaths from the new coronavirus in the country has risen to 5,041, with an additional 78 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The DGS reveals that there are currently 170,952 cases registered in the North (more than 1,231), 33,154 in the Center (more than 292), 106,198 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (more than 917), 5,714 in the Algarve (more than 35), 1,192 cases in the Autonomous Region of Azores (plus 21), 971 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (plus nine) and 6,950 cases in Alentejo (plus 92).

Currently, there are 3,367 hospitalized patients (more than 99), of which 513 are in Intensive Care Units (less one) and 245,843 cases recovered in Portugal, 2,788 more than those registered yesterday.

Regarding deaths, of the total of 5,041 deaths, 2,431 were registered in the North (more than 38), 657 in the Center (more than 14), 1,751 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (more than 24), 55 in the Algarve, 18 in the Azores and 127 in the Alentejo (two more). There are two deaths from Covid-19 in Madeira.

There are currently 143,026 men and 175,893 women infected with the new coronavirus, and there are 6,152 infected people whose gender is unknown. In terms of deaths, there are 2,640 men and 2,401 women. 77,498 people are under surveillance, 75 more than yesterday. There are still 74,187 active cases, 269 less than the one seen yesterday.

The age group with the highest number of cases is between 40 and 49 years old, with 23,127 men and 30,486 women, in addition to 974 people of unknown sex, in a total of 54,587 cases. The highest number of deaths is registered over 80 years of age, with 1,554 men and 1,826 women, out of a total of 3,380 deaths.
