Portugal registers 14 deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest figure in four months | Coronavirus

This Tuesday, October 6, Portugal registered 14 deaths from covid-19, the highest daily value since June 1, the day on which the same number of deaths occurred. In total, the country has tallied 2,032 deaths and 80,312 infections since the start of the pandemic.

Of the 427 new cases, 231 (54.1%) were identified in the North and 131 (30.7%) in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo. Of the 14 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, ten occurred in the Lisbon region, three in the North and one in the Center. The data were published in the daily update of the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS).


50,712 people have already recovered, 258 more than on Monday. There are another 155 active cases, for a total of 27,568. This figure results from the subtraction of recovered persons and deaths from the total number of infections.


732 people are hospitalized (31 more than Monday), 104 of whom are in intensive care units (two less than the day before).


The overall fatality rate in the country is 2.5%. Approximately 86.7% of the people who died with covid-19 in Portugal were over 70 years old. In the last 24 hours, three women and a man between 60 and 69 years old, a man and a woman between 70 and 79 years old, and six men and two women over 80 years old died.


The region with the most cases of infection is Lisbon and the Tagus Valley: 40,731. They are followed by the North (29,113), the Center (6503, 35 more than on Monday), the Algarve (1841, nine more) and the Alentejo (1587, 15 more). The Azores have 286 infections (one more than the previous day) and Madeira 251 (five more).


The highest number of deaths from covid-19 occurred in the North: 899. Then Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (806), Center (268), Alentejo (25), Algarve (19) and Azores (15) appear. Madeira has no record of deaths.
