Portugal records a new maximum number of deaths from covid-19

This Friday, Portugal counted 95 deaths, a new maximum of deaths related to covid-19 in 24 hours and 5,080 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus, according to the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has registered 5,373 deaths and 340,287 cases of infection by the new coronavirus, with 71,266 active, 885 more than on Thursday.

Regarding hospital admissions, the DGS epidemiological bulletin indicates that 3,230 people are hospitalized, 74 fewer than the previous day, of which 507 are in intensive care rooms, two less than on Thursday.

Mondim de Basto, Chaves and Vimioso with twice the incidence of the North

The municipalities of Mondim de Basto, Chaves and Vimioso have twice the incidence of infections by the new coronavirus in the North, with an average of 829 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the report of the Health Administration.

The document from the Regional Health Administration of the North (ARS-N), to which Lusa had access today, reports the evolution of the epidemiological situation between the week of November 19 to 25 and December 3 to 9.

In the municipalities covered by the ARS-N, Mondim de Basto, Chaves (Vila Real district) and Vimioso (Bragança district) have the highest incidences, with more than 2,200, 2,000 and 1,600 cases per 10,000 inhabitants.

The Northern region has an average of 829 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in that 14-day period.

The incidence in Mondim de Basto, in the Vila Real region, already stands at 2,274 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days.

Between the last week of November and the first week of December, the municipality registered a 32% increase in new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Chaves, also in the Vila Real district, has an incidence of 2,023 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days.

Vimioso, in the district of Bragança, has an incidence of 1,665 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days.

Between the last week of November and the first week of December, Vimioso accounted for another 279% of new cases (from 14 to 53).

These three municipalities are followed by Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Trofa, Esposende, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Vieira do Minho, Armamar, Guimarães and Póvoa de Lanhoso.

In these eight municipalities, the incidence exceeds 1,200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days.

The report also indicates that of the six districts covered by the ARS-N, Bragança, Vila Real and Viana do Castelo registered an increase in new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection in early December.

The district of Bragança registered an increase of 17%, going from 297 new cases in the last week of November to 348 in the first week of December.

In this district, the municipalities of Vinhais, Vimioso and Bragança also followed this trend, registering a growth of 317%, 279% and 75%, respectively.

The district of Viana do Castelo reported an increase of 4%, from 484 new cases in the last week of November to 505 in the first week of December.

Here, only the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Melgaço and Vila Nova de Cerveira opposed this trend, and the remaining seven municipalities increased the number of new cases.

The Vila Real district registered an increase of 2%, going from 1,022 new cases to 1,038.

In this district, Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Mesão Frio and Montalegre also followed the growth of new cases, setting the rate at 172%, 133% and 114%.
