Covid-19 has killed at least 1,827,565 people in the world since the onset of the disease was reported in China, according to the balance of the agency France Presse at 11:00 today.

More than 83,906,690 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed since the start of the pandemic, of which at least 53,756,600 are now considered cured.

The balance is based on the data reported daily by the health authorities of each country, excluding subsequent reviews by the entities responsible for statistics in countries such as Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The number of diagnosed cases reflects only a fraction of all infections, being part of the less important cases or referred to asymptomatic situations. There is also a widespread increase in testing since the beginning of the pandemic.

On Friday, 9,661 new deaths and 555,864 new cases were registered worldwide, the countries with the highest number of new deaths being the United States, with 2,271, Mexico (700) and the United Kingdom (613).

The United States is the most affected country in terms of deaths and cases, with a cumulative total of 347,865 deaths in 20,136,182 cases, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

It is followed by Brazil, with 195,411 deaths and 7,700,578 cases, India with 149,218 deaths (10,305,788 cases), Mexico with 126,507 deaths (1,437,185 cases) and Italy with 74,621 deaths (2,129,376 cases). .

Belgium has the highest number of deaths relative to its population, with 169 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Slovenia (131), Bosnia (125), Italy (123) and North Macedonia (120).

As of 11 am today, Europe totaled 577,421 deaths for 26,780,200 cases, Latin America and the Caribbean 509,332 deaths (15,631,581 cases), the United States and Canada 363,471 deaths (20,718,886 cases), Asia 220,019 deaths 13,946,361 cases), the Middle East 90,239 deaths ( 4,012,049 cases), Africa 66,138 deaths (2,786,532 cases) and Oceania 945 deaths (31,087 cases).

This balance is based on data collected by France Presse correspondents from the competent authorities and information from WHO.

Due to reported corrections and late release of some figures, the increase in global figures, over the last 24 hours, may not exactly correspond to the figures that were previously reported.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
