Portugal broke a record of cases for 3 consecutive days. There haven’t been that many deaths since April

In Portugal, in the last 24 hours, 21 more people died from the covid-19 pandemic; since April 3 there have not been so many daily deaths. At that time, there were 37. Cases also rose again: 2,608 additional infections were confirmed. For three consecutive days, the country has broken daily records for cases.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) this Friday (October 16), in total, since the pandemic began, 95,902 people have been infected, 56,066 recovered (985 more) and 2,149 deaths in Portugal.

At this time, there are 37687 active Portuguese patients to be monitored by the health authorities, 1,602 more than yesterday.

Most of those infected in the last 24 hours are in the northern region (more than 1,350 – 51.8% of the total) and in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (725 – 27.8%). They are followed by the center (plus 323), Alentejo (150), Algarve (44), Madeira (12) and the Azores (four).

Portugal crossed, for the first time, the barrier of two thousand daily cases of infection by the new coronavirus this Wednesday, when 2,072 infections were reported. This figure was exceeded on Thursday (2 101 cases).
