Portugal breaks record of infected by covid-19

Portugal registers 11 more deaths and 2101 new cases of covid-19, returning this Thursday to break a new record for daily infections. Another 588 people recovered. In total, since the start of the pandemic, 2,128 people have died and 93,294 have been infected.

Then, on Wednesday, Portugal reached the highest number of new daily cases of infection, counting more than 2072 infected people, today it reaches a record value again: 2101 cases in 24 hours. This is the eighth consecutive value above a thousand infections a day and the second above the two thousand barrier. The new maximum comes a day after the Health Minister indicated, according to mathematical models, an estimate of more than three thousand cases a day “within a few days”, if there is not “the necessary precaution.”

There are also more 1502 active patients compared to yesterday, out of a total of 36,085, and 588 more recovered (from 55,081). In total, 93,294 people are or have been infected with the virus: 50,762 women and 42,532 men.

Youth and North with higher increases

The largest increase in new cases continues to occur among young people: the age group 20-29 years adds 449 new infections. There are infections among the active population, adding the age group of 30-39 years plus 342 cases and that of 40-49 plus 366. Up to the age of 19 there are 273 new infections and those infected with 80 years or more add up to more than 120 records.

The North region continues to be the one with the most new infections (1,146 out of a total of 35,807), which represents 54.5% of the most recent infections. They are followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 733 more cases, in 45,521, and the Center region, where there are 163 more infected, in 7511. Alentejo has 40 more (in 1764) and the Algarve more 13 (in 2080). The archipelago of Madeira has five more infected, with a total of 305, and in the Azores there is one more case, in 306.

Two victims under 60

In the last 24 hours, 11 more people died in Portugal, bringing the total number of deaths from covid-19 to 2,128 (1,066 men and 1,062 women). Seven deaths were recorded in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, two in the north and two in the center. There were three men and five women aged 80 or over, a man aged 70 to 79, a man aged 40 to 49, and a woman aged 50 to 59.

The number of hospitalizations continues to rise: there are now 36 more people in the ward (993 in total) and four more in the intensive care units (139). 51,601 people are under surveillance, 1,057 more than yesterday.
