This Monday Portugal was included in the European classification group A for the Qatar World Cup 2022, along with Serbia, Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg me Azerbaijan, dictated the draw held in Zurich, Switzerland.

In the draw, without representatives of the federations due to the covid-19 pandemic, the 55 teams were divided into six pots and were drawn into five groups with six teams each, and in another five with five teams.

The winner of each of the 10 groups will qualify directly for the final, while the runners-up will play the qualifying play-offs, which will be joined by two winners from the Nations League groups that cannot qualify. directly to the 2022 World Cup or to the play-offs.

Of these 12 teams present in the play-offs, which will be played in March 2022, the last three European representatives will start at the 2022 World Cup. Qualification will take place between March and November 2021.

The Qatar World Cup will take place outside the usual period between June and July, due to the strong heat in that country, the 2022 competition being scheduled for the dates between November 21 and December 18.
