The Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo announced today the postponement of the beginning of the school year to October 6 to “guarantee that all the measures adopted by the institution are in force and in full operation.”

The president of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC), Carlos Rodrigues, quoted in a note sent to the press today, explained that the decision to postpone the start of the school year “was justified due to the need to guarantee the safest response from the institution to the evolution of the covid-19 pandemic, in an exceptional and contingent situation ”that the country is experiencing.

“In these complex times full of uncertainties, doubts and anxieties, the IPVC is preparing for the beginning of the school year, doing everything possible to comply with the indications of the health authorities and the Government to, in this way, mitigate the contagion risks. from the covid-19 pandemic and prevent infections within our community, ”he said.

Carlos Rodrigues launched a call to the academic community “to be strict in complying with the rules and guidelines already defined.”

“As we all know, mitigating the evolution of the pandemic involves a large part of our behavior. I urge, and ask, all members of our academy to be strict in complying with the rules and guidelines issued by the authorities, the presidency, and school boards. The success and security of each one of us is also the success and security of all ”, he emphasized.

Face-to-face classes, extended hours with classes including Saturdays, setting classes per classroom, use of spaces that until then were not used for classes, namely auditoriums, mandatory use of masks, hand and space hygiene, adequate signage and barriers necessary. , in all our schools, to facilitate community movement, safeguarding social distance and avoiding the crossing of people when accessing school spaces, are some of the new measures implemented by IPVC.

Regarding accommodation, “the IPVC is, according to the latest report of the PNAES – National Plan for Housing in Higher Education, the second polytechnic in the country with the largest number of available places of its own”, with a total of 453.

“This indicator shows the concern that the institution has always attributed to the reception of displaced students,” stressed Carlos Rodrigues, referring to this academic year an increase of 111 places, totaling 564.

The IPVC adds that, despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, “the offer increased, having established protocols with hotels, local accommodation units and with Movijovem, the managing entity of Youth Hostels, which provide for the possibility that the Students, under special conditions, can use the posadas in Viana do Castelo, Vila Nova de Cerveira, Melgaço and Ponte de Lima ”.

In dining rooms and bars, “the IPVC will provide the ‘takeaway’ service in addition to redefining lunch hours, by implementing shifts reconciled with the opening hours of classes.”

With about five thousand students, the IPVC has six faculties – Education, Technology and Management, Agrarian, Nursing, Business Sciences, Sports and Leisure -, which offer 28 undergraduate degrees, 40 master’s degrees, 34 Higher Professional Technicians Courses (CTESP ) and others. Professional training.

In addition to the higher schools of health, education and technology and management, located in Viana do Castelo, the IPVC has higher schools installed in Ponte de Lima (Agrária), Valença (Business Sciences) and Melgaço (Sports and Leisure).
