Policies and leadership, performance in the last month and confidence for the prime minister. In the three parameters evaluated in the Aximage barometer for DN, JN and TSF, António Costa sees his position strengthened in the face of the latest survey, held in December, while Rui Rio stagnates in the appreciation of the Portuguese, thus widening the gap between the two party leaders.

According to this study, the worsening of the epidemiological situation in the country during the first two months of the year, with hospitals close to rupture and a record number of deaths from covid-19, did not affect the overall positive assessment made by the Portuguese. from the Costa de António.

According to the Aximage barometer, 60% positively evaluate their performance as party leader in the last month. (six percentage points more than in December), compared to 20% negative appraisals (minus 5 percentage points).

The PSD leader collects 33% positive and 34% negative.

Regarding the identification with the leader and his policies, the balance is once again very favorable for the Prime Minister: 40% of those surveyed said they liked the leader and his policies and 22% said precisely the opposite..

As for Rui Rio, only 16% responded “pleasing the leader and his policies”, half of those who said they did not like either the leader or his policies. The problem seems to be partly in their interventions, since a higher percentage – 25% – responded that they liked the leader but did not like the policies.

In the indicator “confidence for the prime minister”, the differences between the two politicians are even greater, with Costa maintaining the leadership against Rui Rio long distance: 54% versus 18%.

Another data revealed by the barometer published in this Saturday’s editions of DN, JN and TSF reveals that António Costa’s actions are more unanimous with the socialist electorate (only 5% make a negative assessment) than that of Rui Rio with the Social Democrats, with 16% of PSD voters not liking their performance.
