Police rescue Portuguese merchant kidnapped in Aragua

Venezuelan police today rescued a 56-year-old Portuguese businessman who had been kidnapped by several armed men in the town of El Concejo (90 kilometers southwest of Caracas), in the Venezuelan state of Aragua.

According to police sources, the merchant was rescued during an operation in a mountainous area of ​​El Trapice del Medio (Revenga, el Concejo).

Adelino Achada Ferreira was kidnapped from his residence, last Wednesday night, December 30, by several armed men, members of a dangerous criminal group nicknamed “El Cotejo”, and rescued the following afternoon.

The kidnappers demanded payment of “a large sum of dollars” for the ransom.

During the operation, the policemen were received with shotguns by the criminals. One of the kidnappers has died and authorities are trying to verify the whereabouts of other members of the group, whose number has not been disclosed, who fled to a wooded area.

The authorities confiscated a pistol “and other evidence of investigative interest.”

The operation was carried out by officials of the Aragua State Police (100 kilometers southwest of Caracas), in coordination with local municipal authorities and officials of the Bolivarian National Guard (Military Police).

Investigations continue through the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC, former Judicial Technical Police).

Police sources report that the Portuguese merchant was rescued in good health.
