The Judicial Police is investigating three municipalities in Madeira. The news is advanced by Olá magazine, which talks about the suspicions of PS-Madeira financing through direct adjustments made between municipalities and shell companies.

One of the municipalities is, according to the national publication, the Funchal City Council, which was the subject of searches this Wednesday.

As DIÁRIO revealed last night, the municipality confirmed that it was “collaborating” with the PJ, “in the context of an ongoing investigation by various entities, prompted by an anonymous online complaint dating from 2018.”

The Judicial Police (PJ) conducted searches today at the Funchal City Hall, as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to Saturday, the Operation of the National Unit against Corruption began this Wednesday, in the Chamber of Funchal and continues today in two more Madeira municipalities, namely those of Machico and Porto Moniz, in addition to the company NP Publicidad, owned only. The three municipalities are socialist and the NP company corresponds to the activity of Nélio Pereira, also a socialist, who became a municipal deputy for Funchal.
Nélio Pereira has a printing press, in his personal name, and had direct adjustments with various municipalities, including Funchal, for the production of various graphic materials (brochures and posters). Authorities suspect that the scheme could allegedly be used to finance parties.

On Saturday he also added that some of the contracts were concluded when Nélio Pereira was mayor (municipal deputy) in the Chamber of Funchal, who hired him. The case is not entirely clear, from the legal point of view, but sources familiar with the process admit that there may be an incompatibility here, according to the national publication, noting that Nélio Pereira’s contracts date back to the mandate of Paulo Cafôfo, which is mayor (he was the independent candidate supported by the PS in the last regional legislatures), but his vice-president, at the time of the events, was Miguel Gouveia, that is, the current mayor of Funchal.

Nélio Pereira has contracts for a total value of 190,162 euros with four socialist municipalities in Madeira: Funchal, Machico, Porto Moniz and Ponta do Sol.
