The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) said this Saturday, reacting to the prime minister’s statements to admit a possible political crisis, that problems “are not solved by threatening crisis”, but by seeking solutions.

“Problems are not solved by threatening crisis, but by finding solutions to respond to urgent issues that affect the lives of thousands of people and with options that open the way to a policy unleashed by the impositions of the European Union and commitments to the great capital, “said the party led by Jerónimo de Sousa in a statement.

In the note sent to the Lusa agency, the PCP also stressed that “it is not enough to declare that nothing is wanted with the PSD, it is necessary that the same options are not made.”

“Even more so when there are still convergences between the two parties on various relevant issues,” he added.

The PCP thus reacted to the words of the prime minister in an interview published today in the weekly Expresso, in which the head of government stated that, if there is no agreement for the approval of the State Budgets with BE and PCP, there will be a crisis politics.

“If there is no agreement, it is simple: there is no budget and there is a political crisis. There we will be discussing the date when the president [da República] We will have to do the inevitable ”, answered António Costa, when asked about the subject.

In a message addressed mainly to the leftist partners of the PS in parliament, António Costa considers that “whoever does not want to assume responsibilities should dedicate himself to another activity”, because political activity requires “assumption of responsibilities.”

Faced with the scenario of left-wing parties leaving the PS and the government alone with the PSD to make next year’s budget feasible, the prime minister said he would not ask the Social Democrats to vote against or to abstain.

“What I want to make very clear, and I have already left it to the PCP and the BE, is that, if they dream that they are going to put the PS in a position to go to negotiate with the PSD the continuation of the Government, they can remove the horse from the rain, because we will not negotiate for the right the subsistence of this Government ”, stressed António Costa.

On Thursday, the President of the Republic called for dialogue to make the State Budgets for 2021 (OE2021) viable, which he considered a fundamental instrument for the application of European funds, and warned that it will not be aligned with political crises.

“This is an adventure. Besides the health crisis and the economic crisis a political crisis, it was the total adventure. The alternative would be a long-term crisis, that is, the president who took office on March 9, whoever In other words, it will be dissolved for the June elections. This does not exist, this is fiction. Therefore, a political crisis or the threat of a political crisis is fiction, “added Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the beginning of a visit to the Fair of the Lisbon Book.

For her part, the coordinator of the Left Bloc (BE), Catarina Martins, in reaction to António Costa’s statements, said that the prime minister’s “ultimatum” on a possible political crisis “does not solve anything and does not mobilize None.”

“It is not the first ultimatum on the political crisis. It does not solve anything and does not mobilize anyone. We need strong responses to the health, social and economic crisis,” reads a publication made today by Catarina Martins on the Twitter platform.

The BE leader added, in the publication in which she reacted to António Costa’s interview, that responses to the crisis must be given “immediately, in OE2021,” and that her party “focuses on solutions for the country.”
