After Avante’s party! It is the turn of the PCP congress, scheduled for November 26, 27 and 28, in Loures, to provoke controversy. At the moment, these days, circulation in the municipalities most affected by the pandemic is not restricted, but it may be if the measures currently in force are prolonged.

The communist leader has already come to consider that it would be “unacceptable” for the government to demand the postponement of the event, considering that this “is not just any activity.” In question, according to Jerónimo de Sousa, “there are political rights”, guaranteeing that “there will be security conditions.” ”. And he goes further: “Only if there was a disgrace in the leadership of the party would the possibility of postponing the congress be considered.”

In a press release, the communists had already guaranteed that “with the effective guarantee of all health protection measures by testing, such as the Festa do Avante! he did so, so that political activity and the exercise of the rights enshrined in the constitution can be maintained with the conditions of prevention and health safety ”.
Even so, the XXI National Congress of the PCP will have half of the delegates. That is to say, about 600, compared to the 2016 meeting – at that time there were 1,200 – due to the pandemic, without the presence of national and foreign guests ”. And it will serve to elect the next secretary general.

PSD Loures condemns the decision

The PSD of Loures has already condemned this decision, considering it “reckless, reckless and negligent, putting all Lourens at risk”, in the context of a pandemic scenario and, taking into account that this municipality is currently on the list more troublesome and affected by the curfew.

“The realization of this event deserves, therefore, on the part of the PSD, a deep feeling of disgust and the need for firm action in its denunciation and signaling,” said the president of the PSD of Loures, Nelson Batista, expressing “astonishment and disbelief”.

And he accuses the mayor of Loures, Bernardino Soares (PCP), of having “an irresponsible attitude” when he affirms that “the state of emergency does not suspend political activities”, considering that the state of emergency due to covid-19, in force since 4 from November to November 23, “does not foresee political events.”

The president also recalls that Loures is included in the list of municipalities with high risk of spreading the pandemic, in which restrictive measures such as curfews are applied, Nelson Batista described the decision of the communists as “reckless, unwary and negligent” , at a time when the number of infections and deaths from covid-19 is increasing, in which emergencies end in several hospitals and “where the shortage of health professionals is evident and puts the National Health Service in an even more serious state. weak”.

The President of the Republic has also considered it “desirable” that the communist congress be held in accordance with the rules of the state of emergency, despite recognizing the law to safeguard political meetings. “It is true that the law expressly establishes that political and union activities cannot be affected by the state of emergency. There is an article there. But it is also true that the perception (I have already spoken it many times) is that what is determined for some is also determined for all, ”said the head of state.

According to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, “the measures that are taken – which will depend a lot on the evolution of the numbers in the coming days – is desirable for everyone.”

The regime of the state of siege and the state of exception establishes that “in no case shall the meetings of statutory bodies of political parties, unions and professional associations be prohibited, dissolved or subject to prior authorization.”
