This Friday, parliament approved a PSD bill that imposes the mandatory use of masks in public spaces for at least three months, a measure that can be renewed. The measure was approved in general with votes in favor of the PS, PSD, CDS-PP, votes against the Liberal Initiative and abstentions from the PCP, PAN, PEV and the unregistered detainee Joacine Katar Moreira (ex Livre).

During this Friday’s plenary session, the PSD, author of the bill on the temporary imposition of the mandatory use of masks in public spaces, once again stressed the importance of extending the measure.

The PCP raised questions about the distance to be taken when wearing the mask in public spaces. “It is necessary to clearly define the obligation and the inspection that is necessary to fulfill it,” recalled the Communist deputy, João Oliveira.

The Bloco de Esquerda announced that it will present proposals for changes in the field of communication and public awareness, as well as the proposal for the distribution of free protective equipment to the population. Blockers also claim the pedagogical role of the authorities and the refusal of inspection with a view to administrative offenses.

After the general criticism of the parties – including the PS – of the obligation to use the ‘app’ announced months ago as a volunteer, the president of the PSD, Rui Rio, announced the intention of the Social Democrats to present a project identical to that of the Government. but only for the part of the masks, which was made last Friday.

In an interview with TVI On Monday, Prime Minister António Costa announced that the Government “would not agree” with the appreciation of his diploma, leaving only the “consensual” proposal of the PSD on the imposition of the mask.

This obligation may be waived “in relation to people who are part of the same household, when they are not in the proximity of third parties” or by presenting a medical certificate of multipurpose disability or a medical statement that proves that the clinical condition or cognitive impairment does not Allow the use of masks.

Nor is the use of a mask mandatory when “it is incompatible with the nature of the activities carried out by people.”

The inspection “is the responsibility of the security forces and the municipal police” and the failure to wear a mask constitutes an offense, punishable by a fine of between 100 and 500 euros.
