Parking in the center of Lisbon will cost € 2 per hour

The Municipal Assembly of Lisbon approved this Thursday a new rate map prepared by EMEL.

It was approved this Thursday.

Those who do not have a resident’s credential will have to pay € 2 an hour to park their car in the center of Lisbon. According to the newspaper “Público”, this Thursday, December 17, the Lisbon Municipal Assembly approved the changes to the municipal parking regulations with a new map of city rates.

One of the novelties is the introduction of the new brown and black rates, which will be applied in areas where the chamber wants to have a greater rotation of parking lots. This map was produced by the Lisbon Municipal Mobility and Parking Company (EMEL) and, for now, provides a brown area: Baixa. No black zone has yet been established.

Currently, the yellow rate is applied in Baixa, with a payment of € 1.20 per hour and a maximum parking period of four hours. The goal of the municipality with the change to the brown rate will be to stimulate the rotation of parked cars to benefit commerce.

The new regulation also foresees that Avenidas Novas will pass almost the entire parish to the red rate, a process that has already begun. In Estrela, the green areas will turn yellow and, in Misericórdia, the yellow area will turn red. In Alvalade and Campolide, “Público” also mentions, “almost all green areas so far turn yellow and, in Areeiro, Bairro dos Actores turns red”.

Finally, the lowest rate – green – will continue to apply to Campo de Ourique, Olivais, Lumiar, Carnide, Benfica and “almost everything” Parque das Nações. The rate is 80 cents per hour and the maximum parking period is four hours.
