The Order considers that it is a measure that is not justified because there are hundreds of unemployed nurses.

The Order of Nurses (OE) spoke out on Monday against the placement of nursing course students in the reinforcement of the teams of Public Health Units to carry out epidemiological surveys. The OE considers it an unnecessary measure because there are hundreds of unemployed nurses.

“The response to the pandemic, at this stage, does not justify that students practice acts typical of a regulated profession, practicing actions typical of a degree that they do not yet have, much less admitting that they seek solutions that allow their professional practice voluntarily “, considered the OE in a statement.

The Order of Nurses also explained that they recently conducted a survey that concluded that there are at least 412 unemployed nurses with immediate availability. Of these, 300 were never contacted and 100 rejected the institutions’ contractual terms, such as four-month contracts.

It is recalled that last Friday, the general director of Health, Graça Freitas, revealed that nursing students would carry out epidemiological surveys in order to detect “as soon as possible” close contacts to those infected with covid-19.
