A 28-year-old man, a doctor from Rio de Janeiro, died this Wednesday of complications related to covid-19. It is not yet clear if he had the vaccine.

The case was confirmed by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), which says it was notified of the death on October 19 and clarified that “the process is still under evaluation.” It is not yet known whether the Brazilian volunteer will have been vaccinated or not.

“The data related to the investigation carried out by the International Safety Assessment Committee was shared with the Agency. It is important to note that, based on the ethical confidentiality commitments provided in the protocol, the regulatory agencies involved receive partial data on the investigation carried out by said committee, which it suggested for the continuation of the study, ”the Anvisa statement reads.

At the moment AstraZeneca, the responsible laboratory, has not issued any comment on the case, so tests with the Oxford vaccine against covid-19 should continue.

Let us remember that Portugal should receive a total of 6.9 million vaccines against covid-19 from this laboratory. The batch is part of the European Union order for 300 million AstraZeneca vaccines and will be distributed to Member States.
