The Regional Health Authority of Azores detected seven positive cases of covid-19, in the last 24 hours, including a 38-year-old man, resident in that archipelago, from Madeira. It remains to be seen whether the infection was contracted in Madeira or already in the Azores region.

DIARIO questioned the Regional Secretary of Health about the possible risks for the population of Madeira, as well as what procedures will be taken, but the guardianship is still investigating the situation.

The seven cases detected in the Azores after the completion of 1,308 analyzes in the two reference laboratories of the archipelago were announced this afternoon, in a statement, by the Azorean health authorities.

On the island of São Miguel, in addition to the man from Madeira, a 34-year-old non-resident woman, a 42-year-old non-resident, with a known result after disembarking, and a seven-month-old baby whose parents, residents in the archipelago, had already had a positive result after the recent landing in the archipelago and were isolated from that moment.

On the island of Terceira, upon arrival a 32-year-old woman and her two children, ages 5 and 9, resident in the region, were diagnosed with an air connection with the mainland.

According to the Health Authority, all the cases “present a stable clinical situation.”

A 31-year-old man identified as a carrier of the covid-19 virus on August 26, in São Miguel, has since left the region, “heading to the mainland, without the authorities”, after having already taken steps, through the Delegation. Health Council, the procedures “with a view to articulation with the respective authorities and judicial procedures.”

So far, 236 positive cases have been detected in the region, with 34 positive cases currently active, of which 27 on the island of São Miguel, six on the island of Terceira and one on the island of Pico.

The archipelago registers 16 deaths, all in São Miguel.
