“I’m sorry to lose João Almeida’s pink jersey, but I spent all my energy trying to stay with him as long as possible. Tomorrow is another day and Milan is getting closer,” Fausto Masnada said on Twitter. Almeida replied shortly after: “Thank you, you were fantastic. You and the whole team! This would not have been possible if I had not had the whole ‘pack’ with me.” Deceuninck-QuickStep herself shared this image on social media, highlighting the union. Still, João Almeida maintains a strong attitude, although he fell to fifth place, 2.16 minutes behind the new leader. “I don’t know what this event in Milan has in store for me, but I’m ready to do my best,” he said, quoted on the team’s website.
