The project of the new university residence of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC) was announced today, which will have up to 400 beds, it will be ready at the end of the first semester of 2021 to request community funds.

“We are doing our homework to be prepared to move forward if and when they open notices for community funding. Alone, IPVC is unable to complete a project of this magnitude, ”Carlos Rodrigues, president of IPVC, told the Lusa agency today.

The new IPVC university residence is planned for the grounds of the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão, located on Avenida do Atlântico, next to Praia Norte, in Viana do Castelo.

The equipment “with between 350 and 400 beds” has not yet defined the value of the investment, but that the president of IPVC estimated “in several million euros”.

“We are doing a more comprehensive project. We don’t want it to be just a residence. We intend to provide it with other functionalities such as cafeteria and others that we do not have and that make sense to install in the new equipment. I am convinced that the financing notices will arrive, either within the scope of this community framework or at the beginning of the next one ”, he reinforced.

Currently, IPVC has two residences in the city of Viana do Castelo, and a Ponte de Lima, where the Escola Superior Agrária is located.

Regarding accommodation, “the IPVC is, according to the latest report of the PNAES – National Plan for Housing in Higher Education, the second polytechnic in the country with the largest number of available places of its own”, a total of 453.

With the construction of the new university residence, the IPVC could “double” the accommodation capacity, one of the “priorities” of the institution.

In October, the IPVC signed five protocols with hotel units and a youth hostel, guaranteeing 157 beds in the region to house displaced students.

This accommodation is located in the municipalities of Viana do Castelo, Melgaço, Vila Nova de Cerveira, Ponte de Lima and Valença.

With about five thousand students, the IPVC has six schools -Education, Technology and Management, Agrarian, Nursing, Business Sciences, Sports and Recreation-, which offer 28 undergraduate degrees, 40 master’s degrees, 34 Higher Professional Technicians Courses (CTESP ) and others. Professional training.

In addition to the higher schools of health, education and technology and management, located in Viana do Castelo, the IPVC has higher schools installed in Ponte de Lima (Agrária), Valença (Business Sciences) and Melgaço (Sports and Leisure).
