A 45-year-old nurse from the US state of California tested positive for COVID-19, more than a week after being inoculated with the vaccine from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, reveals that Reuters.
According to a ABC News, Matthew W, a nurse at two hospitals, began by saying that he had a sore arm the day he received the vaccine, December 18, but that he had no further side effects.
Six days later, on Christmas Eve, the nurse fell ill after a shift in the covid-19 ward of one of the hospitals where she works. Matthew reported having “chills” and later muscle pain and fatigue.
The nurse went to a testing center at the hospital, where she tested positive the day after Christmas.
An American infectious disease specialist, Christian Ramers, explained to ABC that this was not an “unexpected” scenario.
We know through clinical trials of the vaccine that it takes 10-14 days for a person to develop the protection that the vaccine provides.“said the expert, adding that “The first dose gives about 50% immunity and a second dose is needed to reach 95%.”
