North breaks record and exceeds two thousand daily infections by covid-19

Portugal registered, in the last 24 hours, another 3,669 new cases of covid-19 and another 21 deaths. In total, since the start of the pandemic, 2,297 people have died and 116,109 have been infected.

The daily bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) reports 1,686 additional active cases of the new coronavirus, for a total of 45,970 active infections. In the last 24 hours, 1,962 have recovered from covid-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 67,000 people (67,842) have transmitted the SARS-Cov-2 virus. The number of daily infections (3,669) is the highest since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are 37 more people hospitalized this Saturday; in total, 1,455 infected people are hospitalized in Portugal. In intensive care, there are now 23 more patients, increasing the number to 221 hospitalized in these units.

The North once again breaks the daily record in the number of infected: there are more than 2,212 people with the new coronavirus. As some experts have already said, this week the region exceeded 2,000 daily infections for the first time. At the press conference on the evolution of the pandemic, this Friday, the Minister of Health reported that the North had “risk maps at work” to “assess the epidemiological situation.”

In number of infections, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo follow with 1,027 infections, the Center with 273, Alentejo with 96 and the Algarve with 54. In Madeira there are three more positive cases and in the Azores, four more registered infections.

Of the 21 fatalities, 11 lived in the north, six in Lisbon, two in Alentejo, one in the center and one in the Algarve. Most deaths continue to be in the age group over 80 years.
